Unlock 1st bonus character in versus mode:
Press Left, Up, Up, Right, Right, Right at the main menu.

Unlock 2nd bonus character in versus mode:
Unlock the first bonus character, then press L1, L1, L1, R1, R1, R1 
buttons at the title screen.
